Project Description:

The project included the restoration of an ancient house in downtown area of Mexico City along Isabel la Catolica Street. The house hosts the new seat of the Society of Author and Editors of Spain (SGAE), as well as a small cultural center, a café, a library, a concert hall, and a terrace that can be adapted for multiple uses.

The intervention transformed the old spaces into new and modern working spaces. It also adapted the roof into a terrace were social and cultural event can be held.

The main purpose of the project was to preserve the historic essence of the building, while at the same time satisfying the needs of the new tenant. The materials and the color palette were defined by elegance and sobriety; better natural lighting was introduced and a better circulation was achieved that enhance the character of the colonial building. All these interventions contributed to the activation of the interior spaces, and positioned the building as a new cultural pivot in the downtown area.
